Concert for Darwinson - Eduardo & Amigos

Darwinson Monzon was born in San José de Barlovento, a small village in Venezuela. From birth he suffered from neurofibromatosis, a serious illness that causes tumors inside the body and the skin. He grew up in extreme poverty, could hardly go to school and is only able to read and write to a limited extent to this day. Physically stressful work is impossible for his illness. In the hope of help, she trusted that Eduardo would find a doctor. And indeed: Darwinson's history led to Dr. Borsche and the Verein Interplast e.V., who organizes free operations for the needy.
2003 started the first use of an Interplast in Venezuela. Darwinson could not be operated on there, but a year later he came to Germany, where he was treated in Bad Kreuznach. His face changed visibly, even if several interventions remained necessary. In total, Darwinson was now operated four times by interplast doctors-in Venezuela (2006) and in Germany (2004, 2013, 2022).
Despite the medical help, his life remained shaped by poverty. Today, at around 40 years old, Darwinson lives alone in a simple hut. In the event of rains, his quarter and the small house are often flooded. The red stones of the walls remain wet for many weeks. The plaster crumbles and cracks run through the walls. The roof is covered with old corrugated iron and it rains in many places. His parents have now died, he has hardly any
income and often not to eat enough. Eduardo continues to support him with money for food and medication.
In order not to have to live in the damp house, Darwinson commutes back and forth between his sister's apartment in Caracas and some acquaintances. New tumors have formed and his restless life has an impact on his health.
Darwinson's story is unique because it gave the impetus for auxiliary operations that went far beyond him and his health problems: more than 550 children and adults were operated on by working in Venezuela. His fate has given many people hope and new life perspectives - even if his own life remains a daily fight.
