About event
For years, the Finn Mäkkelä, with his poetically dark songs - not entirely wrongly repeatedly labeled as "folk noir" - is certainly one of the most exciting artists in the European songwriter scene. Painfully beautiful song material that rescues the folk tradition of storytelling into the 21st century, coupled with a rarely seen stage presence and intensity, have made the performer one of the genre's outstanding live acts. Or as the Nürnberger Nachrichten describes it in a review of the current album “Dog & Typewriter” (9pm Rec/Broken Silence): Razor-sharp song poetry, as rough as the asphalt of the road.
Mäkkelä's consistent skirting of the mainstream brought him over the years, a cultural award from the city of Nuremberg, a nomination for the German Folk Award and a loyal following, but for the general public it is still easy too bulky. No improvement in sight. Emotional shows somewhere between Strummer, Cohen and Waits.
Open 7:00 p.m.
Concert 8:00 p.m.
