About event
In the KOOK series “Slow Dating,” two artists from different disciplines meet for an intensive exchange about poetics, politics and the discourses that shape them. On November 25th The author Irina Bondas and the multimedia artist Keren Cytter meet in Studio 119. They talk about chance and decision, understanding and disruption, therapy and technology, familiarity, humor and perhaps also cats in creative processes.
+++ The event will take place in English +++
The work of the artist Keren Cytter is overwhelming and multifaceted, it ranges from dance and performance to video and film to fine art and literature. It links allusions and references across media, film and cultural history. In 2024, Cytter was a guest at the Berlinale Forum with her film “The Wrong Movie”. The Berlin-based author and translator Irina Bondas invited Keren Cytter to explore with her how works are created, what meaning productivity, inspiration and reflection have, how they combine in different forms of expression and what relationships between art and the world can be rethought. When and where does an artistic attitude begin, and where does the private end? Do you need a specific medium, your own language, or many foreign ones? How do ideas, forms and motifs come together that seem to point infinitely beyond themselves?
Irina Bondas, born in Kyiv, works as an interpreter, translator, lecturer, presenter and cultural worker in Berlin. She translates poetry, theater and prose. After starting out in spoken word, she now publishes poetry and essays in magazines and anthologies, including Jahrbuch der Lyrik, manuscripts and Literaturbote. Bondas was Styria Artist-in-Residence in 2024 and has been on the Berlinale Forum screening team since 2024.
Keren Cytter studied at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv. From 2005 to 2012 she lived in Berlin, since then in New York and Münster, where she works as a professor at the art academy. Cytter is known for her video works, plays and drawings. She also founded a dance company and wrote novels and children's books. Her works have been exhibited in major art institutions and museums. In 2021, Cytter received the Guggenheim Fellowship.
On November 26th and 27th, "Forum & Friends" will show four programs with films by Keren Cytter as part of "Arsenal on Location" in the fsk cinema.
