About event
We invite you to the christening of Veronika Kratochvílova's debut novel: Kořeny jabloní.
Host Oldřich Suchý.
Kristina Viktorie Hanišová.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Magdalena's life spanned the last decade. While the body betrays her more and more every day, the head remains awake. She returns to her memories and opens up the story of her youth, when the destinies and totalitarianism of the 1950s had a bitter effect on her family's fate. At that time, young Magdalena was looking for a different, colorful world for herself, which was provided by literature. Now she lives in a retirement home.
Lenka comes to the apartment after her. The thirty-seven-year-old woman is shortly after a breakup and is starting a new life stage. Thanks to a letter addressed to a former tenant, he gradually gets to know Magdalena, and this writing turns both women's lives upside down.
A sensitive debut novel not only a dive into the souls of the heroines, which are surprisingly more united than divided by different generational experiences. It is also a celebration of the power of literature, storytelling and writing.
