Jazz, Improv, Japanese Music
Doors open: 8:00 p.m. – Concert: 9:00 p.m.
Naoko Kikuchi (koto), Taiko Saito (marimba & vibraphone), Niko Meinhold (p)
The marimbist and vibraphonist Taiko Saito, the koto player Naoko Kikuchi and the pianist and composer Niko Meinhold are all outstanding Virtuosos and multiple award-winning artists. Together, the three create a sonically diverse musical world that combines new music, traditional Japanese music, jazz and contemporary free improvisation in a fascinating, profound way.
The musicians first met in the Trickster Orchestra. In the ensemble they played on stages such as the Elbphilharmonie and at international festivals. An album with them was released on ECM. The duo performance of Taiko Saito and Naoko Kikuchi at the Moers Festival 2024 laid the foundation for a more intensive musical collaboration between the two Japanese women, from which a multi-faceted trio has now emerged with Niko Meinhold.
