The Kingdom of Heaven returns to the screen and this time in the iconic extended director's cut!
Ridley Scott, director of Gladiator and master of historical epics (The Last Duel, Rivals, 1492: The Conquest of Paradise), tells the story of the young Frenchman Balian (Orlando Bloom), who, despite having lost everything, regains his lost honor and glory on a brave expedition.
On this expedition, a simple blacksmith leads his father (Liam Neeson). Although Balian barely knows him, he finally nods to his offer to go to Jerusalem - and after a wild interaction with a priest who did not want to rest the soul of his late wife, he sets off to the holy land to seek peace and absolution for both himself and his love. But he will find much more: For example, his knightly destiny.
Ridley Scott's historical opus brought a different kind of spectacle than the highly successful, Oscar-winning Gladiator from 2001, but the legacy of the Kingdom of Heaven can be even more alive today. It is a narrative and timeless reflection on war and peace, on the madness and absurdity of religious struggles, and on personal bravery in the face of eternity. In addition to Bloom and Neeson, the charming Eva Green, Jeremy Irons or the masked Edward Norton excel.
