About event

Masaryk University annually commemorates the anniversary of the "Velvet Revolution" in 1989, when our country gained freedom and the possibility of independent national development. MU will celebrate this event on November 15 in the afternoon and evening in the premises of the First Floor Hall on Šilingr Square in Brno.

The program will include the awarding of important personalities with university medals from the hands of Rector Martin Bareš, a record of the presentation of the gold MU medal to Marta Kubišová, a lecture by former Polish dissident, diplomat and translator Andrzej Jagodzińský and a discussion on free media with the participation of Lída Rakušanová, Andrej Shary, Josef Pazderka and Petr Váša.

The event culminates in a jazz rock concert by the Jazz Pilgrim group with guests — Brno singer, performer, experimenter and physical poet Petr Váša and Roma musician and composer, excellent double bassist and bassist Josef Feč.

Under the name Fragile Freedom, teachers, students and employees of the university will gather, among other things, to remind that freedom and democracy are a constant struggle.

The Fragile Freedom 2024 program is open to students, academics and the general public the public. Entry is free.
