An adaptation of Robert Crichton's humorous novel, offers a spirited story about how not to take things seriously until your life is at stake. Or about wine? It is 1943 and Santa Vittoria, a picturesque mountain town in Italy, is waking up to a new era after twenty years of Mussolini's dictatorship. The local residents survived the war in the lee and have no idea what kind of change awaits them. Experience whispers to them that I guess as always - none. But every reason to celebrate counts. They threw away great ideals and vain hopes a long time ago and concentrated on what is closest and dearest to them - wine. Crichton's original is reminiscent of Kurt Vonnegut's books or Heller's Head XXII with its harsh honesty, spiced with sarcasm and harsh abbreviation. At first glance, a light comedic gloss about the indomitable Italian character is a current metaphor about various forms of defiance. The surprising plot develops into increasingly absurd and serious tones. So the well-guarded secret of true heroism is finally revealed - let's not cast the role of heroes on others, let's not just wait for white crows or valiant falcons to sacrifice themselves and stick their necks out for us.
