After a long time, the musician Vašek, a colleague, a member of one of the best dulcimer bands, visits the family of landlord Matúš. Matúš, himself a former musician, learns from him that the musicians he used to play with are falling apart and decided to quit for good at the end of the month. Matúš remembers a custom that persisted in their band: "if one of the family members has a wedding, the other boys play for him for free". When his wife finds out about this custom, he decides that he has to organize the wedding of his eldest daughter Jolana by the end of the month and thus take advantage of the free opportunity to have one of the best bands at her disposal and thus take revenge on her old rival Božena for having a more lavish wedding and still making her feel it. her husband Matúš.
