About event

La Fandanguera is a collective of Mexican musicians based in the Netherlands, offering a compelling exploration of the traditional sounds of Veracruz and the Huasteca region . Through the delicate rhythms of the jarana and requinto, expressive violin melodies, and improvised poetic verses, the ensemble presents a rich mosaic of Mexico’s musical heritage. Bridging the gap between past and present, the performance invites the audience into an immersive cultural experience—a celebration of the enduring power of folk music to connect communities across time and borders.

For this special occasion we present three acts:

ZORZAL – A Son Huasteco trio led by César Puente on jarana, Fátima Hernández on violin and Pablo Suaste on guitarra huapanguera.

SONES DE MADRUGADA – Omar Medina on requinto and vocals, and Leonardo Prieto on jarana and vocals, perform a selection of Sones Jarochos traditionally played in the late hours of the fandangos.

FANDANGO JAROCHO – performed by all the musicians and special guests. A lively, communal celebration from Veracruz, Mexico. It features improvised verses, rhythmic dance (zapateado), and traditional instruments, creating a celebratory space where music, poetry, and dance converge. Rooted in Afro-Indigenous and Spanish traditions, it is both a celebration and a cultural ritual.
