About event
Two years ago Lady Blackbird performed in De Oosterpoort and now she returns with her powerful voice and a unique mix of jazz, soul, gospel, rock and pop. With her latest album Slang Spirituals she releases her most personal work to date, in which she expresses her journey of self-discovery and acceptance. The eleven songs range from soulful orchestral pieces to folk and psychedelic soul, and demonstrate her emotional and musical versatility.
Growing up in a religious family, Lady Blackbird started singing at an early age and received a recording contract at the age of 12. However, her religious upbringing felt oppressive; as a queer woman she felt left out. After years as a session singer, she found her unique sound together with producer Chris Seefried and achieved success with Black Acid Soul. With Slang Spirituals she continues her journey and takes you on a liberating journey during her performance.
