About event

Next Saturday, December 7th, the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema and the Serralves Foundation will present a catalog raisonné dedicated to the work of Manoel de Oliveira. The launch will be at 3:30 pm at Casa do Cinema Manoel de Oliveira, in Serralves, Porto. Two days later, December 9th, the catalog will be presented in Lisbon, at the Cinemateca, in the Linha de Sombra bookstore at 6:30 pm.

Both launches will be attended by António Preto, director of Casa of Cinema Manoel de Oliveira, and José Manuel Costa, director of the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema between 2014 and 2024.

Designed by António Preto and José Manuel Costa, the catalog that now sees the light of day will be one of the most complete and comprehensive dedicated to the Portuguese director and comes in the wake of other publications around Oliveira's universe published by the two institutions over the years.

The project was born out of the «need to a reference work that, in an integrated way, and with data validated by both institutions, can serve as support, whether for those who wish to enter Oliveira's universe, or for those who, on it, wish to undertake more in-depth studies", explain António Preto and José Manuel Costa in the opening note of the catalogue.

Manoel de Oliveira Catalog Raisonné includes four essays on the entirety of Oliveira's work, an anthology of texts that covers the director's entire filmography and brings together technical details , frames captured from the original supports of the films, synopses, notes of intentions and other writings signed by the filmmaker and other authors, a biography of Manoel de Oliveira, the active and passive filmographies and a very complete bibliographical review. The work will also have an English version, to be released soon.
