Launch of the 'Historical Calendar of slavery and colonial past'

On October 11, 2025, during History Month and Black Achievement Month, Beweging Nederland Beter Beter (NLWB) will launch the long-awaited 'Historical Calendar of Slavery and Colonial History'. The launch will take place from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM at the Amsterdam City Archives.

Please note, registration is required via this link: https://forms.gle/RqbytjgyaiqquC618

This unique and educational calendar brings together more than 170 underexposed events and people from Dutch colonial and slavery history. Recent developments in the field of Black emancipation are also included. The goal: increasing awareness and passing on knowledge to future generations.

Since 2020, NLWB has been working on this calendar with more than 30 committed volunteers. The result is an accessible and informative timeline that invites readers to deepen their knowledge. With this educational project we want to increase awareness of the extent and events of the Dutch colonial and slavery past and promote the struggle for emancipation.

Please join us at the launch of the Historical Calendar. During the launch, we will discuss the importance of recognition and awareness of the colonial and slavery past with the compilers of the calendar and various guests. Afterwards, visitors can also nominate events or important people themselves via a form on the Nederland Wordt Beter website. In this way, together we build the most complete possible picture of this shared past.

The launch line-up will be announced soon.
