About event
We invite you to a reading discussion about the book Love before Slovnaft with the Civic Association Odyseus, which will take place in the Karlovy Vary on Jurigo Square.
"Love before Slovnaft" is a novel published in 2023 by the Civic Association Odyseus. It is dedicated to helping people who use drugs or work in the sex business on the streets of Bratislava. The author of the novel is Peter "Šlepo" Šlepecký, who was a client of the association, before he tragically died in 2021 under the wheels of a car while crossing the road, notably near the Center for the Treatment of Drug Addictions.
The plot of the novel takes place in contemporary Bratislava and describes the life vicissitudes of the main character Lac, which has strong autobiographical features. The novel describes his experiences with attending abstinence groups and with relapses of various kinds. It also deals with a relationship with a woman who provides sexual services on Slovnaftská Street.
We are waiting for a reading of excerpts from the novel and a discussion with OZ Odyseus workers who worked with the author. We will gradually add more information.
The event will take place thanks to the financial support of the SPP Foundation and with the financial support of the Capital of the Slovak Republic through the Bratislava City Foundation. The partner of the event is BKIS.
