About event
The fascinating epoch of Biedermeier, which extended from Vienna's Congress 1814/15 to the revolutionary year 1848, outlines a time in which Europe was shaped by political upheavals and social upheavals that resulted in a profound social change.
Napoleonic wars were re -drawn the political map at the Vienna Congress and a European post -war order was decided. The result was the restoration of absolutism, which initiated a long phase of political restoration and restrictive measures and destroyed democratic tendencies.
Despite the state censorship and bitter poverty, the widespread section of the population was a bourgeoisie, which was self -confident in its role. As a retreat, the family was of particular importance and topics such as longing for security and harmony in everyday private life were found in the image content of the Biedermeier. In addition to the perspective on the small, obvious and everyday life, landscape painting - from the Vienna forest to alpine scenarios full of grace and silence to Veduten also countries and cities - gained great importance.
The focus of this show is not only Vienna as the capital of residence of the Habsburg monarchy, but also the splendid cities of the crown countries such as Budapest, Prague, Prague, Prague, Prague Laibach, Venice or Milan and their respective surroundings. The view is therefore not only aimed at the Viennese champions such as Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller or Friedrich von Amerling, but also on Miklós Barabás and József Borsos from Budapest, Antonín Deek and František Tkadlík from Prague or Francesco Hayez and Giuseppe Tominz from Lombardy.
