About event
The rave apocalypse Sirat shocked Cannes, and in addition to the Jury Prize, it won the reputation of the most original film of the festival with cult potential.
Louis and his young son come to a wild rave party in the middle of the Moroccan mountains in search of his daughter Mar. Surrounded by hypnotic beats and a strange, raw freedom, they set off with a group of techno nomads to search further for a secret action somewhere deep in the desert. A caravan of converted trucks loaded with sound systems, diesel and drugs makes its way through the hot sand. The journey quickly turns into a crazy hallucinatory ride from which there is no escape.
Oliver Laxe (1982) was born in Paris as the son of Galician emigrants. After studying audiovisual communication, he moved to Tangier, where he shot his first film, Todos vós sodes capitáns (2010), which was awarded the FIPRESCI prize in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs section at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2016, he won the main prize at the Semaine de la critique in Cannes for the film Mimosas, shot in the Atlas Mountains. His next film O que arde (2019), shot in the Galician mountains, won the jury prize in the Un Certain Regard section. In 2025, he participated in the main competition for the first time with the film Sirât, shot in the Sahara, with which he won the Jury Prize.
