About event
You've probably heard of this movie. But when was the last time you had the opportunity to personally meet the person behind the Oscar-winning documentary?
We will start the summer cinema season on the Strahov season in an exceptional way, with the screening of the documentary Mr. Nobody against Putin, winner of the Oscar and the BAFTA award. What will be special about the screening? Even before the screening, we invite you to a debate with journalist and expert on Russia Ondřej Soukup. And after the screening, there will be an opportunity to debate with the main protagonist and co-author of the film, Pavel Talankin, a former teacher from a small Russian town who decided to document how war and propaganda transform everyday life in Russia. He will discuss contemporary Russia, education, manipulation and the courage to stand up to the system.
Pavel "Pasha" Talankin lives in a small Russian town and is a popular teacher at the local elementary school. With the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, the content of his work will completely change. He is forced to organize activities in accordance with the new war guidelines and document them on camera. The demands on teachers increase, Pash's former students leave for the front and the atmosphere in the city thickens. Frustrated, Pasha decides to fight as best he can. He begins to film not only state-mandated activities, but also everyday life inside and outside the school, with the aim of showing the world the impact of war and an authoritarian regime on the local community. The film Mr. Nobody against Putin brings a unique insight into the functioning of Russian propaganda and tells a thrilling story about a man who decides to risk everything in order not to betray his values.
