The elegant doctor Ingrid (Aňa Geislerová) works in the mid-1980s in a remote district hospital. Gripped by an exhausted marriage and a stagnant career, she devotes most of her time to her patients. It brings children into the world and ends unwanted pregnancies. They also sterilize Romani women without fully understanding the consequences. A new friendship with the young and immediate paramedic Agatha makes Ingrid see things in a different light. Will she begin to question the rules that she has so far been adamantly following? Ivan Ostrochovský's impressive drama opens an unresolved chapter in Czechoslovak history, when the state decided on the possibility of having children.
