About event

For your freedom and ours!
Pro-Palestinian solidarity initiatives are calling for their own parade through Prague on November 17, the Day of the Fight for Freedom and Democracy. It will start at 2:00 p.m. on Palach Square and continue across Smetana Embankment to Wenceslas Square. Commentator Petr Pospíchal, former dissident, signatory of Charter 77 and political prisoner, writer and director as well as dissident Monika Le Fay, Czech-Israeli journalist and active participant in student protests from November 1989 Nataša Dudinská, representatives of pro-Palestinian initiatives, spokespersons of student movements and from Poland and from Germany and many others.
We do not want to commemorate the holiday of the fight for freedom just by laying wreaths at the monument of past battles, while our political representation supports the Israeli occupation and its war crimes. We don't want to just watch those who will preach to us about freedom while they destroy the freedom of the Palestinians by supporting Israeli apartheid. We cannot joyfully celebrate the return of democracy when the Palestinian voice calling for freedom is silenced and persecuted.
The motto of our assembly is solidarity and the demand for equality, which is a prerequisite for both freedom and democracy. We follow the legacy of the few brave Soviet citizens who protested against the occupation of Czechoslovakia in Red Square in Moscow in August 1968 under the slogan "for your and our freedom". In this way, they best subscribed to the universal demand for freedom and human rights. We too are convinced that we cannot enjoy the fruits of freedom while our political representation is complicit in Israel's war crimes.
With our march, we subscribe to the legacy of November 17 in its tradition of active civic action for freedom and democracy. Freedom where our own government helps suppress it, and democracy for those who are to be deprived of it.
For freedom for the Palestinians and against the Israeli occupation.
For your and our freedom!
Join the funeral procession for buried November values.
