Lidské tělo v dílech starých mistrů

The human body was and is an inspiration for the work of representatives of various eras and diverse artistic trends.

In the exhibition at the Schwarzenberg Palace, visitors will see how the naked human body was depicted by Renaissance painters, representatives of Rudolfinian Mannerism, and masters of Baroque painting and sculpture. They will be reminded where the painters Lucas Cranach the Elder, Maerten van Heemskerck, Bartholomeus Spranger, Hans von Aachen, Peter Paul Rubens, Bartholomeus van der Helst and Michael Leopold Willmann, as well as the sculptors Benedikt Wurzelbauer, Paul Heermann, Matyáš Bernard Braun, Ferdinand Maxmilián Brokoff and other great artists were inspired and created. The view of their works will be complemented by a recapitulation of stories about Adam and Eve, heroines from ancient history - the virtuous Roman Lucretia and the proud Carthaginian princess Sophonis - as well as goddesses, gods and other characters from ancient fables.

After the guided tour, there will be time to stop individually at individual works of art according to interest.

To enter the collection exhibition, you must pay an entrance fee - the basic price is CZK 250, a reduced entrance fee of CZK 140 applies, for example, to seniors 65+ and students. Admission is free for visitors under the age of 15. Even members of the Friends Club of the National Gallery in Prague do not pay the entrance fee.
