About event
"In her hair the roses Her last coolness vapores from her armpits"
The South African poet Antjie Krog writes in her impressive collection of poetry body cry about the transition and the aging woman. It is a rare gem in literature: when writer and spoken Word poet Babs Gons went looking for books in which the menopause or transition plays a role, the collection of Krog turned out to be the only book about this that was in her closet. High time for more attention for the transition in literature!
That is why Slaa is organizing together with Babs Gons and Paradiso on Sunday 30 March: body cry! The transition in literature, with: Babs Gons, Maaike Meijer, Meral Polat, Sylvana Simons and Wieteke van Zeil.
Babs Gons put together this afternoon and takes us in her search for the transition in literature and finding words for what you experience in that period. Maaike Meijer, emeritus professor of gender studies and literary scientist, went looking for examples from the literature in which the transition does play a role especially for this program. With culture journalist and writer Wieteke van Zeil we dive into the visual arts. How is the transition depicted in art? Sylvana Simons wants to normalize talking about the transition, in a column she highlights the phenomenon. Music is there by Meral Polat and of course poems are performed from the body cry by Antjie Krog.
