About event
Women Get Involved and Persona Grata present LINEA ASPERA + SKEMER + CARRIEGOSS as part of Women Get Involved.
𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐀 𝐀𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐀
Composed of singer Alison Lewis aka Zoé Zanias and keyboardist Ryan Ambridge, Linea Aspera was born in London thanks to their shared passion for cold wave, analog synths and EBM. After producing an excellent LP in 2012, the two acolytes bow out temporarily to return in 2020 with “LP II”, a new opus which confirms their status as an essential group on the cold/dark wave scene.
𝐒𝐊𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐑
Skemer is the cooperation between singer Kim Peers and the guitarist Mathieu Vandekerckhove formed in 2019. They quickly discovered that their individual strengths complemented each other perfectly. Two very different worlds collide and lead to minimalist dark wave deconstructions that are equal parts brutal and erotic.
This duality is reflected in the name Skemer, which, apart from its obvious English meaning of “intriguing” also means “twilight” in Mathieu’s mother tongue, West Flemish. The band recorded their debut album just months after they met, and that sense of urgency shines through in their effervescent live shows where Peers' seductive vocals combine with Vandekerckhove's austere rhythms to blend in.
The first album Benevolence was released on October 25, 2019 on Avant! Records. In 2022, a remix of the song "Sunseeker" by Dana Montana was released on He.She.They Records. by Gwladys Orbs. Under this alias, she composes songs between Dance and Darkwave where singing melodies combine with marked rhythms, heady bass lines and cold and dusty synth layers.
