Vier. Stories
From Lithuanian by Markus Roduner
Four short stories from a fictional port town on the Baltic Sea - four main characters: Lukas, Inga, Marius, Nora - all between the ages of thirty and forty. Lukas, the writer who has returned from abroad, meets ladies from high society in a macabre situation. The divorced Inga gets involved in men's stories in order to find happiness. Marius, the underdog at school, seeks to make ends meet by asserting the rights of the strongest. And finally we find Nora on drugs with her younger lover.
The Lithuanian Kulvinskaitė takes a close look at people who are supposedly looking for happiness on the fringes of society. Exciting, with macabre humor and an unpredictable resolution.
Virginija Kulvinskaitė
is a Lithuanian author and influential literary critic. After a highly praised collection of poetry (2017) and an award-winning novel (2019), she published the collection of short stories “Vier” (2023). Her poetry and prose have been translated into English, German, Russian, Latvian and French.

The Town Festival
Stories
From Lithuanian by Markus Roduner
Mažeikiai – a small town in Lithuania – is the setting for these magical stories about growing up and coming of age. Whether it's a major fire, sexual experiences, or a search for the meaning of life, the author always unfolds a fireworks display of color, atmosphere, emotions, where Hollywood, pop and consumer culture come together. With a sharp pen, she uncovers the layers of everyday life and the human psyche.
The volume of stories “The City Festival” is full of fiction and fantasy and is Lina Simutytė's literary debut.
Lina Simutytė
born in 1990, is a cultural editor, prose and screenwriter. She studied film art and intermedia literature and is part of the new generation in the Lithuanian cultural scene. The literary project she initiated, “Blunkanti sofa” (“Fading Sofa”), explores the theme of inner restlessness and anxiety. Her texts have been translated into English, Dutch, German, Georgian, Polish and Latvian. She was awarded the Jurga Ivanauskaitė Prize in 2020 for the shortlist “City Festival”, and the volume was also on the “Book of the Year” shortlist. The author lives in Vilnius.
Markus Roduner (translator)
born. 1967 in Switzerland, studied Slavic-Baltic studies and historical-comparative linguistics in Bern and has been translating Lithuanian and Latvian literature since 2002. He was awarded the Georg Dehio Book Prize in 2018 and lives as a publisher and freelance translator in Vilnius.
His translations of the novels by Valdas Papievis (2020), Jaroslav Melnik (2021), Laurynas Katkus (2023), poetry by Aušra Kaziliūnaitė (2023) and the poetry anthology were published by KLAK "Devil's dozen. Poetry from Lithuania" (2022). After Lina Simutytė (“The City Festival”, 2024), Virginija Kulvinskaitė is his second translation by a young author from Lithuania for KLAK.
