We invite you to the presentation of the translation of George Steiner's essays Two Roosters. Two dinners on Thursday 11/12/2025 at 18:00.
George Steiner, literary and cultural critic, philologist, philosopher, comparatist, essayist, writer, polyglot and polyhistorian in his essays Dva kohúty a Dve večere (SUD/Sancho&Panza 2025), which is being published in Slovak for the first time, translated by Martina Ivanova and edited by Inge Hrubaničová, offers the Slovak reader the opportunity to encounter the rich historical and cultural (philosophical, literary, mythological, religious, symbolic) European-American heritage related to the death of Socrates and Jesus Christ. According to Steiner, their death sentence and execution, in which parallels can be seen, still dominate our "civic and metaphysical consciousness".
Martina Ivanová is a linguist and translator. He is professionally engaged in the study and learning of the Slovak language. She translated into Slovak George Steiner's essay work Lessons of Masters (Artforum 2022). She is the author of the poetry collection Interpretation of Meaning (SUD/Sancho&Panza 2024), for which she was nominated for the Golden Wave Award 2025.
Actress, screenwriter, artist, writer and linguist Inge Hrubaničová has been active since the 1990s, mainly in the field of linguistics and theater, currently more in film. In 1991-2000 she worked in the independent author's theater Stoka under the direction of B. Uhlár, in 2005-2019 in the author's theater Skrat. Her literary debut Love goes through the acorn/ďok (Aspect 2007) was nominated for the 2008 Anasoft Litera Award and the Library Award in the same year. She is also the author of poetic texts in the collection Separation (hygienic measures of speech) (SUD/Sancho&Panza).
