About event
Michael Stavarič was born in 1972 in Brno, but the family emigrated to Austria when he was still a little boy. He grew up in bilingual and graduated in Vienna Czech language and literature. Stavarič writes prose, poetry and books for children. For his work he won several awards as the Adalbert von Chamisso Award for the Brenntage Novel (Fire Days) of 2012, the Austrian State Award for Literature for Children and Youth and the City of Vienna for children's work. Several of his titles also published in translations to Czech. The book Fantastic Octopus (2024) won an important Czech award Golden Stuha. The novel Phantom (2024) is a literary tribute to writer Thomas Bernhard. He is also dedicated to translating from Czech, translated the works of Patrik Ouředník, Jiří Gruša, Markéta Pilátová and others. It is a modern fairy tale full of compassion and empathy, the story of a young woman Stella, who copes with the loss of the father and sets out to search for the history of his family. This is the life of Stell's father. He always returns with photographs of a radiant sunny corona and stories from the most remote corners of the Earth. Stella cannot take with him - it's too dangerous - but special special glasses and glittering telescopes also belong to her everyday life. Until the father wakes up one morning. From now on, Stella is dependent on herself as a strange in a small town. When she reaches the age of majority, he finally decides to find out why her father was so fascinated by a complete eclipse. He boosts his way to Congo, where the sun will soon hide. There Stella understands that the shadow of the moon hides her father's darkest secrets. Entry free.
