About event
Between origin and home
A double reading with Ira Peter and Mihail Groys
Two voices, two perspectives, a common question: What does it mean to arrive in Germany and really belong?
The Russian-German journalist Ira Peter "German enough? Why we finally have to talk about Germans from Russia" and the Jewish-Ukrainian author Mihail Groys "My German Story" read from their books and talk about identity, migration and life between worlds.
Both share the experience of growing up in Germany as children of post-Soviet migration and the search for a place in a society that to this day struggles with its relationship to immigration, memory and origins.
The conversation is about belonging and exclusion, about language, religion, racism, anti-Semitism and humor as survival strategies. And the question of what “being German” means today. An encounter full of contradictions, insights and surprising similarities.
