What is LITERATURE AT TOWN HALL?
Literature in the Town Hall is an event created by Veronika Šikulová.
In the pleasant surroundings of the cafe and wine bar, you can meet interesting people, listen to interesting conversations with writers, translators, publishers, scientists and interesting personalities. Don't worry, you don't have to ask, says Veronika Šikulová.
However, if you have any questions, you can ask them personally.
Who is MICHAL HVORECKÝ?
"About things need to be talked about openly, that's the only way we can move forward."
Michal Hvorecký was born on December 29, 1976 in Bratislava. His father, Jozef Hvorecký, was a university teacher in the field of computer science and mathematics, his grandfather, also Jozef, was a professor of economics. Mother, née Kirchmayerová, was a teacher. He studied aesthetics at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Konstantin Filozof in Nitra.
In the years 2000–2003, he co-organized the Wilsonic music festival.
Writes short stories, novels and blogs. His books were published in eight languages.
He received several literary awards and author scholarships for his texts: MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, Literarisches Colloquim in Berlin, Goethe Institute in Munich, International Writing Program in the USA. The adaptation of his novel Plyš was presented by the Na Zabradlí Theater in Prague, the Aréna Theater in Bratislava and the Schauspielhaus Hannover. In 2009, his first play written in German entitled "Slovak Institute. One Comedy" premiered at the Theater Forum in Schwechat, Austria.
He currently works at the Goethe Institute, also works for children, translates from German and moderates literary discussions. He currently lives with his family in Bratislava.
