About event
Lobkowicz Palace at Prague Castle with Prague eyes wide open.
Members of important Czech noble families have gone down in history not only as holders of important offices and participants in power struggles, but also as patrons and art collectors. The Lobkowiczs were among the most active supporters of artistic creation. Over the centuries, this family has amassed extremely valuable collections.
In the family portrait gallery, visitors will be reminded of the most important personalities of the Lobkowicz family and related noble families, especially the Pernštejn and Rožmberk families, as well as the monarchs from the Habsburg dynasty, under whose reign these nobles worked. He will see a copy of the famous statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague, which was brought to Prague by Marie Manrique de Lara, the mother of Polyxena from Lobkowicz. They will see rare dining services, a selection of valuable items from the Lobkowicz jewelry store and part of the Lobkowicz collection of historical weapons. Recently, the music exhibition has been expanded. Thanks to the collecting activity of the Lobkowicz family, it is now possible to admire the works of the masters of European painting – Lucas Cranach the Elder, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Diego Velázquez and Canaletto – in their Prague palace. The tour also includes historic halls and chapels with baroque decoration; one of the most beautiful views of Prague opens from the palace terrace.
