RUST invites you to an evening of nostalgia and melancholy, when the Norwegian singer-songwriter Louien takes the stage .
Louien (Live Miranda Solberg) has been on his way to the stars since his debut in 2019. Her hard work bore fruit when last year she was nominated for the Spellemann prize for her second album Figure Me Out.
As a songwriter, Louien moves between the magnificent and the melancholic, between the gloomy and the melodic. On her latest album, Every Dream I Ever Had, we hear an artist who has found her place. Where the reference points used to be Joni Mitchell and Ane Brun, the inspiration is now rather Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers and Big Thief.
Louien has always been Solberg's solo project, but on this album she wanted to involve her band more and make this an album where everyone contributed creatively. As said, so done, and it's easy to hear that this is a record where more powers are given room to play. Producer and guitarist Øyvind Røsrud Gundersen has always been an important part of Louien's sound, but on Every Dream I Ever Had, bassist Ole Kirkeng and drummer Henrik Lødøen also get plenty of space to unfold.
Already on the first single, "Please", we hear that new lines are being drawn. Laughter, applause and chatter from the studio kick off the track, which then escalates into a symphonic pop landscape before the insistent chorus demands attention. "Losing My Mind" shows yet another new side of the artist as it leaps into a drum groove and an indie landscape Louien has not moved in before. Here you can best hear the effect of her excellent band, with call-back vocals and a wonderful driving force throughout the track. On "Hours" Louien shows in the very best way how she mixes vulnerability and melancholy in the verses, before she delivers a crystal clear chorus that knocks us over. Again.
We look forward to being blown away when she visits RUST in November.Original event source
