The Swedish band will fly to Bratislava directly from Canada — the country where Leonard Cohen was born. And they come here to sing his songs in the language that Cohen himself loved: in Yiddish.
Louisa Lyne & di Yiddishe Kapelye will perform with their project Cohen in Yiddish on September 8 at 19:00 at the Courtyard of the Bratislava Synagogue.
Louisa Lyne is called the "Swedish Queen of Yiddish" — a Swede who fell in love with this language at the first sense of smell and today she is one of its most convincing ambassadors in the world. In 2019, she won the prestigious competition Der Yiddisher Idol in Mexico City. Her band mixes traditional klezmer with modern pop, Latin rhythms and electronic sounds — and the result is anything but museum-like.
Cohen wrote about love, loss, faith and doubt. Yiddish — a language that has survived the Holocaust, the diaspora, and oblivion — carries exactly the same burdens. When these two worlds meet in the courtyard of the synagogue, it's not just a concert. It's something much bigger.
