low key orchestra. You can't get more understatement in a band name. The really most inappropriate - and therefore most appropriate - name was found by Sönke Torpus for something that, without wanting to exaggerate, has really great things musically.

But first, let's start from the beginning. low key orchestra is the new band project of the aforementioned. All indie folk connoisseurs among us will be familiar with or fondly remember his former band Torpus & the Art Directors and will have the joy written on their faces that new music is now on the doorstep of their favorite songs.

“maybe words” was the name of the first of several low key orchestral songs that will be released this year and it is simply a wonderful song. Sönke has created a little hymn for all those who need an outstretched hand or an open ear. As if he had thought to himself: “If I can't be near you, then at least you'll get a chorus that provides more comfort than 1000 hugs.”

Maybe words can help you / Maybe lines that care
I can sense your trouble / And I feel you there

Every line speaks sincere compassion. Together with producer Helgi Helgasson, Sönke managed to translate an inescapable text into warm and multifaceted music. In terms of sound, the low key orchestra - especially in this country - floats very independently in a world of sound and feeling that was shaped by bands like Bright Eyes, Whitney and the Flaming Lips. In songwriting, however, there are parallels to early albums by Coldplay and Keane. Sönke says of himself that he lost music for a long time. Luckily for us, he rediscovered her - or maybe she discovered him. In October, the low key orchestra will go on tour with a full band line-up for the first time.

Susi Wittig aka Like Mint has poetry in mind: The Berliner by choice from the Erzgebirge carries her songs through the country, whose subtle truthfulness makes entire rooms float. It is a gentle, sincere melancholy that makes these songs between indie folk and songwriter intimacy so touching - Like Mint joins the new sensibilities of singers like Lucy Rose, Phoebe Bridgers and Billie Marten and stands on the shoulders of indie giants like Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens and José Gonzales. All of this can be experienced live - in the encounter with the audience, a conversation arises that leaves space for the listener, with wonderful songs that Like Mint sings in a great balance between open-hearted feeling and enchanting secrecy.

The melancholy is not deeply sad, but somehow refreshing, hence the name.
