About event

The first solo exhibition of Ľuboš Lorenz at SPACE contemporary art gallery in Bratislava.

A small retrospective that will present selected works of a political activist and representative of engaged art, who faces constant problems with public authorities for his activities.

_______

Ľuboš Lorenz is known as a radical activist, committed rebel and uncompromising fighter against all dictatorships. The media reported on him most often in connection with the liquidation of symbols of communism and the destruction of commemorative plaques of reprehensible representatives of criminal regimes, which for incomprehensible reasons still persist and often even arise anew in some Slovak cities.

In connection with his activities, he came under the radar of law enforcement authorities and then the courts. He was detained in the CPZ, tried and convicted for some acts. And this despite the fact that his primary goal was to bring things to a legal state.

With the exhibition "In the Name of the Law", we would like to present Ľuboš Lorenz not only as an activist, but also as an artist moving between two related disciplines - art and activism. The theory of art uses a term to describe such creation, which probably most accurately describes what Lorenz deals with - Artivism. Among its most important representatives in the world context are Banksey, Yoko Ono, Tania Bruguera, Ai Weiwei, Guerilla Girls, or Pussy Riot, in Czechoslovakia Podebal, Rafani, Ztohovem, Tomáš Rafa, or Kundy Crew.

To date, Ľuboš Lorenz has held only a few exhibitions, because his goal was not to present and archive his work. He always left that to others. His mission was to act. Uncompromising. Fair enough. True. Legally AND honestly. Just as every citizen should act, but only a few do. The exhibition will present videos, photographs, objects, prints, as well as text and image documentation of his action.
