About event
Histoire de la violence by Édouard Louis, the author of autobiographical initiation novels, is above all an authentic and at the same time analytical record of his own encounter with violence. As a survivor of brutal rape and attempted murder, he refuses to identify with the definitive label of "victim of violence." He himself experiences and simultaneously describes post-traumatic stress, secondary victimization, and his own way out of the trap.
My pain, my injury, my fear became the material, the content of the investigated case of violence, the basis for the medical report, the police report; they became a court case. It was therefore necessary to create literature from the cause, to firmly grasp one's own story in one's hands, to become the main actor of one's own real story. From the object of violence to become the subject of the story.
About the author
Édouard Louis (1992, born as Eddy Belleguelle) is a novelist and sociologist from northern French Picardy, the author of five novels (in Slovak – Koniec Eddyho, in Czech – History of violence, Who killed my father, The struggles and transformations of one woman, How to become another).
Already his first book Koniec Eddyho catapulted her among the world's most widely read authors of the young generation. In his work, he programmatically gives voice to the voiceless, using his own experiences and experiences from growing up in the environment of a forgotten, excluded region full of poverty, racism, precariat, alcoholism and violence.
In the second novel, he returns to the real events of Christmas Eve 2012, when he had to face a sexual attack in his Paris apartment by a man whom he invited to his home. It points to the carousel of institutional violence, which he must subsequently face "as a victim" of such an act for a long time.
