About event
Luís Coelho
Luís Coelho (Portuguese guitar) and André Gomes (piano) present a repertoire of original themes that exploit the fusion between traditional Portuguese music, fado and jazz. Luís Coelho's compositions, adapted especially for this format, reflect a musical trip that honors Carlos Paredes's legacy, keeping alive the essence of the Portuguese guitar as an instrument of innovation and universal expression. Integrated in the first edition of this festival, this concert is an opportunity to revisit the innovative spirit of the master through a personal and contemporary interpretation of Portuguese instrumental music.
guitarist and composer, Luís Coelho is recognized for versatility in the Portuguese guitar approach. He began his studies with his father and, at age 19, joined the National Conservatory (EMCN), where he concluded with the maximum classification the Portuguese guitar exam. He continued studies at the Fado Museum with Master António Parreira and, later, at Esart with Mestre Custódio Castelo, where he also obtained the maximum grade on his instrument. As a musician, he acts regularly on national and international stages, both as a soloist and in collaboration with various fado singers, as well as in traditional, contemporary and dance music projects. His work reflects a constant search for new sounds, maintaining a Portuguese identity. In 2021, he edited his first solo instrumental album, “Store Tales”, by Fado Disc Museum, where he explores the Portuguese guitar dialogue with the harp and double bass in a balance between popular music and the scholar. /FestivalDeGuTarraportugues/
