About event

We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition Luminous Minds
Lucia Jindrák Skřivánková and Michal Škapa, which will take place on November 14 from 8:00 p.m. The exhibition will last from November 15 to January 31, 2025.

The Luminous Minds exhibition presents the artistic symbiosis of Lucie Jindrák Skřivánková and Michal Škapa, two prominent creators who explore light, color and the mutual dialogue of artistic expressions in their work . For both, the emphasis is on the intensity of color, which in their works intertwines with light and evokes a distinct visual experience.

Together they present a series of paintings in which both artists use painting, text and relief layers in a collage-like manner to create a lively dialogue of colors, shapes and hidden messages. Each work is the result of an interplay, when one author starts a composition and the other follows it up.

In these works, Michal Škapa chooses a more abstract form of text fragments and coded messages, which are hidden in layers and open the question of meaning for the perceptive the viewer. Lucie Jindrák Skřivánková introduces plastic reliefs into her paintings, which she uses to expand the canvas into space. The layers overlap, complement and react to each other in such a way that each one retains its perceptibility. Fragments of the original motifs, either partially hidden or on the surface, give the impression that the work is sending a message that is hidden but not completely veiled.

The neon used by both authors in this series adds vibrancy to the images and energy, each working with this light element in a different way. Michal Škapa perceives it more as a drawing tool, while Lucie Jindrák Skřivánková portrays it organically and tangibly. Light thus becomes the unifying element of the entire cycle, which both artists use to achieve a strong visual impression. The selected paintings are placed in frames with a radiant color transition, which enhance the impression that the works emerge from the canvas into space, and thus strengthen the intensity of the color experience.

In some works, this approach extends the visual impact of the frame, while other images are presented without it, thus creating a thoughtful contrast between the individual methods of installation.

Within the exhibition, each of the authors presents also another medium and a new direction of his work. Michal Škapa comes up with ceramic vase objects on which his texts come to life like diary entries. Although this is a new object in his work, he has been creating spatial objects for 15 years and now brings a new approach to this plane through ceramic material.

Lucie Jindrák Skřivánková, on the other hand, in her independent work works with a reduced palette inspired by place, where light is naturally absent and the color spectrum is limited to a minimum of shades - which is unusual for her.

The Luminous Minds joint exhibition thus becomes not only a mutual dialogue, but also a creative laboratory in which both authors find new possibilities for light, text and color.
