About event
• Jirucha/Kalfus/Wróblewski - the launch of the album Prelude and Variations in Db •
Prelude and Variations in D is a joint composition of three musicians of improvisation and contemporary music, Petr Kalfus, Jan Jirucha and Michal Wróblewski. The composition works with different cadences within the tonality of D major. Its basic position is determined in the opening Prelude, and it is further elaborated within the framework of variations more or less preserving the tonality. Among the variations are ingeniously included apparently unrelated parts, in which the composition either modulates more fundamentally (Fermata) or "dissolves" into timbre-tuned areas successfully following the tradition of Spectralism (Coda). Everything is performed by the composers-performers themselves at a top, even virtuoso, level. The recording of the composition Prelude and Variations in Db, symbolically released at the beginning of the new year, carries the promise of hope for the future of fresh work with cyclical forms and for Czech music in general.
• de Pas & Mikyska •
Mélusine de Pas is a top French viola da gamba player working in Prague. She studied early music in Marseille and Paris. In recent years, however, he has also devoted himself extensively to experimental and improvised music. These are the home worlds of the composer Ian Mikyska, who in recent years has been playing the viola da gamba. However, the duo of two gambas is a far cry from the music of composers such as Marin Marais or Monsieur de Sainte-Colombe – they make full use of the instrument's sound and noise potential in an intense chamber interplay. www.ianmikyska.com
• Jungle Debris •
Jungle Debris music ranges from playful songs and drone minimalism to dissonant lyricism up to intense and urgent manifestations. The compositions are interwoven with improvisational concepts, and the construction of form and structure alternates with its subsequent deconstruction. Their work also tries to go beyond the frameworks set by genre and instrument.
Martin Debrička - tenor saxophone
Luan Gonçalves - double bass
Jakub Švejnar - drums and percussion instruments
