Beyond labels and preconceived ideas, the truth in Mabe Fratti's music only comes to fruition when we are listening to it. It happens beyond categories, words and ideas about what crossing experimental/avant-garde music with pop means. There are those who say that the future of music passes through here, it doesn't have to be like this – or so heavy –, Fratti's music moves, breaks, due to the intensity of existing. She visited us recently as part of the Amor Muere collective, another reference in these genre crossings that make us think about the future. The fact that he carries so much of that energy solo and also in a collective justifies us suspecting that there is something passing through him, running through his veins and reaching our ears, our fur.
The association with Arthur Russell is easy and straightforward. And we're not the ones doing it, they talk about it elsewhere, it's natural. First with the cello, his instrument of choice; then by the delicate existence of the notes and how they transform unexpectedly and, finally, the desire to experiment beyond the obvious, crossing and recrossing ideas that are beyond the concept of musical genres. To the three albums he has released so far, “Pies Sobre La Terra” (2019), “Será Que Ahora Podemos Podernos” (2021) and “Se Ve Desde Aquí” (2022), he now joins “Sentir Que No Sabes”, which will be presented in Lisbon, at B.Leza. The fourth full-length continues the route of inspiration in an exemplary combination of experimental and contemporary and a voice between pop/soul that reminds Rosalía of climbing the mountain on a bicycle with the heaviest change: because this life cannot just go forward with motomamis.
The beauty of Mabe Fratti and this “Sentir Que No Sabes” exists in the desire not to slow down, to continue inventing, innovating, and following a brave path in which it does not stop at formulas that follow the times. In this, she has shown herself to be much bolder than many of her contemporaries, resisting fashions, processes and letting experience take the place of the unpredictable. As we said at the beginning, what happens in her music can be heard, it exists beyond description: listening to her is coexisting with surprise, a constant and unexpected shock. The beauty of music without forced categories, which remains naive and curious, no matter how much experience it gains. It opens doors without meaning to, it makes us feel in seconds the most beautiful light and absolute terror. The Roaring 20s are also made of this, music that still doesn't fit on the shelves and that manages to elevate everything it touches. Including us. AS

Calcutá
Teresa Castro is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from Lisbon, currently based in Porto. At the age of 9 she started playing guitar and since 2014 she has been present on the Portuguese music scene - initially as a member of Mighty Sands, and also as founder of the drone-experimental quartet Savage Ohms, having collaborated with numerous other projects to date. Under the moniker Calcutá, she released the EP “Over Night” in 2017 and in 2021 “Real Dog”, the soundtrack composed for the theater play by Solange Freitas.
With her voice, guitar and harmonium, Teresa's music invites us into a dense and free-form sound ritual. Through a hypnotic performance we are led to contemplate a soundscape where contemporary elements such as folk, drone and experimental music are intertwined with other ancestral influences, such as Indian Classical Music or polyphonic singing.
After a pause , Calcutá returns with "feux d'artifice", anticipating the release of his next album. This new single is a sonic patchwork that invites us to pay attention not only to the sensations, but also to the network of moving reverberations that emerge in its apparent stillness.
