New York Zoo is home for four great friends. The biggest star among them is the Lion Alex, then the party includes heavy hippos Gloria, giraffe Hypochondr Melman and Zebra named Marty. It is just the tenth birthday. He has half of his life and therefore begins to balance. In doing so, he finds that he wants something more from life than just making a trained monkey in the zoo. He would like to look into the wild to find out what life in the wild would look like. When he entrusts his dreams to other friends at the celebration, everyone is scared and tries to talk to him the crazy idea. But Melman mentions that a perfectly imitated wilderness offers a zoo in Boston. Marty will therefore secretly disappear from the zoo at night and decides to take the train to Boston for a trip. When the remaining three in the zoo find that their best friend is gone, they do not wait for anything and set out to bring him back. Everyone will clash at the main station, but of course, the free movement of animals around the city is also registered by police officers who hold them at the station. Animals are captured and decides to return to the wild, because according to their behavior it is their boiling wishes. When everyone wakes up in the boxes on the shipping ship with the destination of Africa, there will be a big quarrel between Marty and Alex. Alex cannot accept that they had to leave their New York home for Marty. The boat will also seize fleeing penguins, who in turn do not want to accept the destination and change the course towards Antarctica. But in doing so, the box with a lion, zebra, giraffe and hippos will fall off the boat overboard and friends fail in Madagascar. At first they think they are in some zoo, but the local inhabitants, the wild lemur, headed by King Jeliman, tell them how things are. Marty is enthusiastic, Alex frightened and angry, Melman panic from the local hygienic conditions, and gloria still hopes that someone will return to them. Alex and Marta argue and the king of animals decides not to work with his friend anymore. It will make a wooden copy of the statue of freedom that Melman and Gloria want to ignite when a ship appears at sea. But Melman accidentally burns the statue and then with Gloria goes to Marty's part of the island, where there is fun, comfort and even some food in the form of seaweed. Alex does not want to join them first, but eventually changes the opinion. But the next day, unfortunately, the side effects of being carnivorous Alex have been without food for several days. When the four enjoy the large party and celebrations that they have prepared for their welcome lemur, Alex Appeal and bite unknowingly to Marty's ass. In the wilderness, other animals become prey for lions, and Alex cannot overcome the natural instinct for hunger. Therefore, he is finally expelled by King Jeliman to the other side of the island, among the evil fossies. These are predators who have always been a threat to the lemurs.
