About event
Monday, April 7, 8:15 pm, the Concertgebouw
The orchestra Amsterdam and the Groot Concertkoor Amsterdam perform the monumental second symphony of Gustav Mahler under the leadership of conductor Jacob Slagter. Soloists are the Alt Sophia Patsi and soprano Aylin Sezer.
The Orchestra and Groot Concertkoor Amsterdam are joining forces under the inspiring leadership of Jacob Slagter. Together we perform in the Concertgebouw with an evening -filling work: the second symphony of Gustav Mahler. The 'second' requires a fully occupied orchestra, with extra copper, extra clocks, a complete choir, a soprano and an alto soloist and a "Fernorchester", a small extra orchestra, which plays outside the concert hall. Spectacle is guaranteed!
Mahler 2
Gustav Mahler spent about composing his second symphony. He therefore set high: the symphony is known as "Auferstehung" (resurrection) and is a colossal work about death, redemption and resurrection. Mahler takes us from a sad mourning march to a radiant victory over death.
