With the release of two tapes in 2024, the world will understand why maïa is one of the best observers in the pen game. But now Maïa is ready to show a facet of herself that no one has seen before. On the way to her debut album, which will be released in March next year, she finds new voices and new influences that permeate her music like waves. The boundaries between French chanson and the German language are blurred - melodies are placed on street musician-like instruments and are surrounded by hard drums and floating harmonies. But maïa doesn't lose her core. Her lyrics are precise, playful and yet remain melancholic. They are “love letters,” which is what Maïa calls everything she writes, whether to a person, a feeling or a memory.
The first single from the album “Aschenbecher” already shows where the journey is headed. Between tenderness and pleading appeal, maïa sings the words dedicated to a lost love. “Behind My Tongue” is the name of maïa's upcoming album - and anyone who listens will quickly notice: maïa's new songs are never-sent love letters that remained between the pages of her notebook. She writes as if she were remembering and forgetting at the same time, whether reality or memory remains unclear, maïa remains only a silent observer. Between French lightness and German directness, a sound is created that seems familiar and yet sounds new. maïa opens spaces in which vulnerability is not a contradiction to strength. And every word an echo, a lost love letter.
