SÉANCE DE TRAVAIL 1986–2005 / Excerpts from the MAK Helmut Lang ArchiveThe MAK is dedicating the first comprehensive exhibition of his oeuvre to Helmut Lang and at the same time opening up a new perspective on his work within an expanded cultural context.10.12.2025—3.5.2026Lower exhibition hallStarting from the largest and only official public archive of his work, which has been part of it since 2011 is part of the MAK Collection, the exhibition offers a profound and unique insight into Helmut Lang's mindset and his creative process. Conceived as a mixed media presentation with large-format, site-specific installations, the exhibition transcends the conventions of classic fashion presentations. She traces how Lang's radical vision lastingly changed the perception of clothing, space, identity and visual communication on a global level between 1986 and 2005.
With a consistently cross-media approach, Lang questioned established industry standards as well as social conventions. His uncompromising severity was combined with a deeply human attitude and shaped a quiet, yet radical attitude - supported by loyalty to character and the courage to experiment.
