About event
Ludwig Blochberger and the Goin' Out West Quintet reinterpret Manfred Krug's songs - jazzy, charming, opinionated. An exciting interplay of music and narrative creates an evening that brings to life the moving events surrounding Krug's departure from the GDR - touching and surprisingly topical.
With his unconventional manner and his inimitable charm, the actor and singer Manfred Krug thrilled an audience of millions in the GDR and later in the Federal Republic. From 1971 onwards, Krug released several long-playing records together with the composer and saxophonist Günther Fischer, on which he sang sophisticated, artfully arranged hits and chansons. He writes the texts himself under the pseudonym Clemens Kerber.
In November 1976 he signed the open letter against the expatriation of Wolf Biermann. Krug refuses to take back his signature. The comrades react harshly and the actor is ignored. After months of reprisals, Manfred Krug applies to leave the country. He keeps a diary from the time the application was submitted to the time it was approved.
He kept this manuscript under lock and key for almost 19 years. Manfred Krug's recordings are an exciting and shocking contemporary document and an eye-opener for all generations.
