MariaSilva

Mariasilva is a set of voices of all time. Of old and recent melodies. Of songs that do not know what time they belong to. Of the nooks that seem forgotten, but always have someone who sings them - the voices that don't let songs fall into the bottom of their memory. Perhaps they heard them from a grandmother. And this grandmother may have heard them from another grandmother. Relating is keeping memory alive. It is to make known tradition, understanding its flexibility. The act of falling contains the weight of tradition and change in itself over time. Mariasilva are several voices. They are ours, our ancestors and that of future generations.

Composed by Francisco Leite, Gustavo Paixão, Inês Rodrigues da Silva and Miguel La Feria, the MariaSilva project is born in 2021 as a traditional Portuguese music group. Inspired by the vast estate of popular melodies, the group presents a different musical formation and has as its main focus the exploitation of different fusion possibilities between traditional Portuguese music and other musical styles.
