The current exhibition Embrace by Klára Hosnedlová (*1990, UHerské Hradiště, Czech Republic) National Gallery of the present interweaves numerous cultural -historical references. These include architectural styles, films and novels that shape the cultural memory of the past centuries in today's Czech Republic. Lazarová, which is celebrated in the Czech Republic as the best film ever. The epic film from 1967 was made at the time of the Czechoslovak new wave. Based on a novel by the avant-garde authors Vladislav Vančura (*1891, Háj Ve Slezsku, Austria-Hungary-1942, Prague-Kobylisy, Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia), this moving and poetic history of a feud between two rival medieval robber clans is also a wild, epic and minutious illustrated parabola about the struggle of man and nature, of love and violence, of Christianity and paganism.
cinematic narrative, camera, assembly and sound, but also the loneliness, intensity and uncompromisinglessness of the landscape create an emotional atmosphere that also reflects Klára Hosnedlovás as a non-linear narration. Because instead of telling a conventional historical drama, Vláčil was much more interested in life without nostalgia and way of thinking of a long past time-with an overwhelming result.
