About event
Marla Moya has a voice that you won't forget: rough and warm, honest and full of feeling. After over 1,000 concerts worldwide - from the Glastonbury Festival to the BBC studios - the musician is now starting a new chapter under her full name. With her debut album Sanguine Soul, recorded in Los Angeles with her youth idol and producer Robert Francis, she opens a world between intimate ballads and energetic soft pop rock - unmistakable, timeless and completely true to herself.
"On stage, I want nothing more than to close my eyes for a moment and hear the silence in a room full of people - until the band's first start."
I am accompanied Marla Moya from an extraordinary international ensemble: Alex Connaughton brings in subtle, cross-genre nuances with his pedal steel, her long-time companion Jule Heidmann grounds the sound on bass, Trevor Lang provides rhythmic sensitivity on drums and Conor Cunningham on keyboard weaves a changeable, atmospheric carpet of sound. Four musicians who listen to each other and only play as much as the song demands - and thus give Marla's voice the space it deserves.
The result is an intense, lively show from whisper-quiet moments to songs that pulsate intoxicatingly. A concert that is not only heard, but experienced - and resonates for a long time.
"If Harry Nilsson and Joan Baez were to write a song together today, it would perhaps sound like "Radio" by Marla Moya." -DIFFUS
"We were able to experience a musician who filled a room purely with her voice and the guitar in her arms." –Musicspots.de
