Belarus and Ukraine
What happens when a playwright in the middle of revolutionary events writes a theater play and its call for freedom finds a response to theaterists around the world? White (R) of the USKO of Belarusian playwright Andrej Kurejčik international scenic reading initiative, which has connected dozens of countries and hundreds of artists across continents within a few weeks. Thanks to the activity of American theatrologist John Freedman, she has gradually become a large cultural movement. After the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022, the project continued as a Worldwide Ukrainian Play Readings, this time to support contemporary Ukrainian playwrights and reflect war through new theater texts.
The lecture monitors the transformations of this initiative, its global dimension and local impacts - and shows how theater and cultural cooperation across languages and borders can serve as a tool of resistance, empathy and international solidarity.
Slavonic studies of the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University in Olomouc. It focuses on theatrical translation of contemporary Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian playwrights and translation as a form of social activism. He also focuses on the research of crisis interpreting in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and his own experience with interpreting for war refugees. She has published several professional studies on the theater translation, for example in Translation In Society, Slavica and Vestnik TGP, and performed at international congresses and conferences, including Iatis, Est and Atisa. He translates theater plays as well as literature for children from Russian into Czech.
