Somewhere between folk, pop and jazz lies a place called MarZ - the musical universe of singer, guitarist and songwriter Markéta Zdeňková. Her songs range from honest confessions to pranks to shamanic rituals. He writes mainly in Czech and has the ability to create imaginative melodies while preserving the naturalness of his mother tongue. Thanks to this, it finds an ever-growing audience across genres and generations.
The core of MarZ is, alongside Markéta, co-founder of the band trombonist and singer Štěpán Janoušek, an exceptional instrumentalist of the current young Prague (not only jazz) scene. His handwriting is prominently inscribed in band arrangements. The first album Na rozcestí, recorded as a duo, was a successful introduction to MarZ's sound landscape. In 2018, a five-member band was formed with the arrival of Dalibor Hrubeš (electric guitars), Miloš Klápště (bass guitar, synth, vocals) and Vítězslav Patočka (drums). This formation strengthened and moved Markéta's songs to a new dimension. In March 2020, they released their eponymous album MarZ on the Tranzistor label, recorded in the top SONO Records studio. There they also recorded their third and most mature album so far #silnouzenou, which was released in autumn 2024 and is receiving positive feedback from the media and listeners.
