About event
The Society of Jindřich Chalupecký as an experimental platform
Karina Kottová, director of the Czech platform for contemporary art - The Society of Jindřich Chalupecký, in her presentation on several selected projects, will present the internal and external functioning of this organization and the principles on which its activities are based - especially collectivity, horizontality, ethics, cooperation and also authenticity. How can such values be reflected in the organization of art appreciation, and is it even possible or right? And how did they shape the transformation of this institution from the organizer of the most famous Czech prize for artists into a multi-layered institution that creates its own curatorial, discursive, educational and publication program? In the presentation and subsequent discussion, long-term projects of SJCH will be presented, such as the exhibition, research and publication project Not only the nuclear family, or the international platform Islands of Kinship.
Karina Kottová (1984) is a curator and theoretician of contemporary art. Since 2015, she has been the director of the Jindřich Chalupecký Society, and also works as a curator of the non-profit organization INI Project, which she co-founded in 2011. In the years 2012-2015, she was the curator of the Prague contemporary art center MeetFactory, before that she worked at the DOX Contemporary Art Center and Museu Kampa. She initiated the creation of the UMA Audioguide platform, co-created the Věra Jirousová Award for Visual Art Critics and Prádelna Bohnice projects. She is interested in the (feminist) principles of the functioning of artistic institutions and the subversive potential of the so-called "feminine" qualities such as empathy, irrationality or intuition in artistic practice as well as in the overall social context. She is a graduate of the Bachelor's program in Humanities Studies at FHS UK, the Master's program in Arts and Heritage: Policy, Management and Education at Universiteit Maastricht, and the Doctoral program in Theory and History of Art at FF MU. She completed a Fulbright-Masaryk research stay at the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York, the Curatorial Program for Research in South America, etc.
Where: in room N51 (building N, MUNI Institute of Musicology).
The lecture takes place as part of the TIM Master class at the TIM FF MU in Brno.
