About event
Outrageous art and the art of incitement:
Controversial artwork from the point of view of contemporary analytical philosophy
How can contemporary art provoke dissent and protest? Are the current controversies about works of art somehow specific? And is it even okay to be angry at a work of art? As part of the presentation and discussion, we will talk about current research on outrageous art in analytic philosophy. The starting point will be examples from the Czech context (paintings by Petr Motyčka, the book Les v dům by Alena Mornštajnová) and from abroad (photograph Piss Christ by Andres Serrano, painting Open Casket by Dana Schutz).
Tomáš Koblížek is a scientific a worker in the Department of Analytical Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. It focuses on topics where the philosophy of language and art overlap with ethics, such as hate speech, inflammatory works of art, censorship and freedom of speech. In total, he was a visiting researcher three times at research centers at the École normale supérieure and the CNRS in Paris. He was also an invited professor at the Center Cavaillès at the École normale supérieure in Paris. In addition, he completed study stays at the University of Washington in Seattle and St Mary's University College in London.
Where: room N51 (building N, MUNI Institute of Musicology)
The lecture is held as part of the course TIM Master class at TIM FF MU in Brno.
