About event
As part of the ASFS 2024 awards ceremony, we invite you to a unique masterclass, which will consist of a screening of the film KaprKód (dir. Lucie Králová) and a subsequent discussion with the excellent Czech editor Adam Brothánek.
2. 12. at 18:30 in the KLAP cinema in the FTF building of VŠMU on Svoradova street no. 2.
The moderator will be Robert Kirchhoff.
The film Kaprkód is a documentary opera exploring the nature of memory, music and storytelling through the imprints of the controversial and progressive composer Jan Kapr, who was awarded by Stalin and later completely banned in communist Czechoslovakia, but performed abroad by prestigious musical bodies. The film Kaprkód transfers Kapr's strong and ambivalent life story into an operatic musical composition. The plot follows a documentary libretto based on Kapro's personal, never-before-seen archive full of his magnetic tapes, letters, notes and humorous sketches on 8mm film. Seventeen opera singers from the internationally renowned Czech Philharmonic Choir in Brno sing scenes from Kapro's life, including excerpts from police reports, Kapro's political accounts and love correspondence. Their choir master, Petr Fiala, is the last living student of Kapra. Kaprcode is a playful reconstruction of life after death, where film memory and Kapr's music interact with a story that takes on a mythological dimension. br/>
